Alexander Payne Talks About His New, Set-in-Hawaii Film Starring George Clooney, “The Descendants,” the First Feature by the Writer-Director Since “Sideways”

If you’re a cinephile, or a fan of Alexander Payne’s work, or a George Clooney admirer, then check out my new cover story in The Reader (www.thereader.com), entitled Project Aloha, in which Payne talks about his new, set-in-Hawaii film starring George Clooney, “The Descendants.” It’s the writer-director’s first feature film since “Sideways.” The seriocomic film was shot entirely in Hawaii. The picture wrapped the end of May and is expected to make a 2011 release.

Payne’s script is an adaptation of the same-titled novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings. Her book is a great read, and Payne is quite faithful to her work. The two artists share a similar satiric voice.
